My Sidekick Rio

Rio at Yankee Boy Basin

Rio is a blue merle Australian Shepherd (Aussie) who goes with me on all my Rocky Mountain adventures. He is about to turn 2 years old, and weighs 71 pounds and thinks he’s a lap dog. Rio loves to play Frisbee and thankfully, loves the water. How sad would it have been to name a dog Rio and then he turns out to be afraid of the water? You’ll see a lot of Rio on this web site. He’s quite photogenic and seems to somehow manage to get in every shot!

Rio came from Desert Willow Aussies in New Mexico. You can check out other Aussies like him at their web site: Desert Willow Aussies.

Beautiful Australian Shepherd! I breed Australian Shepherds and I have six right now. I hand picked the father and mother and they have had two amazing litters. I used to go 4 wheeling in Colorado back when the only people for the most part who had 4 wheel drive were ranchers, loggers, and hunters.
I lived in Colorado for about 16 years and I miss it very much. I used to go backpacking deep in the woods with my Border Collie Beau. Have you ever been to Blue Lake? It has been closed to 4 wheeling for decades now, but other means of entry are still allowed I believe. We used to go into Keener and Edge lake also. We turn up at Dotsero and follow the river for a while and go to some great places. I wish I had gotten directions and other information from my father before he died. He would LOVE your video about True Grit Then and Now. That was a Great movie and the John Wayne did an excellent job portraying a great hero.
There are so many celebrities these days and few heros, many males and few men.
Without courage we can not be compassionate. Courage and compassion are inseperable, like the two sides of a coin.
Australian Shepherds are definately some of the very best dogs I have EVER had! I wish the hell I could have kept all 16 of the pups! I miss them badly.
Have a nice spring. Gary T.

According to a recent unbiased survey Jeep is in the top ten most unreliable vehicles on the road. Land Rover and Mini Cooper also made the list.

Thanks, Linda. he’s my third Aussie in 22 years. I love them too! I think he’s glad to be back on his couch though…camping for a week made him appreciate his comfy house LOL.

My friend turned me onto your videos. We were watching the Clear Lake outing and I wondered who did the music for it. That is some smooth work.
